INTERPRETATION

Global communication helps to build bridges between people. Communicating accurately and powerfully requires a flexible, intuitive, empathic and ethical mindset. In my experience, positive communication requires a multi-layered skillset that extends beyond translation to encompass a deep understanding of linguistic nuances and cultural finesse.
My mission is to accurately convey your every message by making your voice resonate in Croatian, English or Italian, across all cultures
.
Every situation is unique. Whether you are organising international events, communicating with your business partner, or creating audiovisual material in multiple languages, I can offer customised linguistic and logistical support.

Simultaneous conference interpreting and Remote Simultaneous Interpreting (RSI)

Consecutive interpreting

An interpreter simultaneously listens, analyses and translates voice messages from one language to another. This is not a mere translation of words, nor the superficial analysis of the text. The translator is required to transmit the overall message in all its nuances and the essence that the speaker wishes to convey to his/her audience (ie. extraction du sens).

Since 2020, interpreters are also required to be tech-savvy and have a sound knowledge of and familiarity with RSI platforms. Ever since the outburst of the Covid-19 pandemic, I have been certified as a KUDO interpreter and have since worked during multiple RSI events. Check out my KUDO Pro Interpreter badge on Credly!

This technique is used in situations with only two working languages.

The translator is located close to the speaker and, at the end of each statement, the translation is presented to the audience. The translator uses a special technique and jots down special symbols to help him prepare the translation and employs a full range of mental activities that include excellent knowledge of both languages, the ability to concentrate, memorise and take notes for longer periods.

Consecutive translation is practiced without additional equipment. It is not suitable for time-limited events.

Whispered translation (Chuchotage)

Trattativa (Business meeting translation)

This technique requires the interpreter to sit next to one or a small group of clients who then listen to the “whispered” translation (“chuchotage”).

In certain cases, these techniques are combined to meet various needs. For example, when the interpreter accompanies a specific delegation for a working visit, he/she may select various techniques of interpretation: consecutive during press conferences and “whispering” during the visit.

In this type of consecutive translation, excerpts of speech are systematically translated in 30-60 sec. slots. The translator is in direct contact with clients, for example in direct business negotiations with a limited number of people.

TRANSLATION

I have translated over 5.862 pages (1.457 documents) of EU legislation into Croatian while working for the European Commission (DG TRAD) in Brussels.
As a freelancer, my experience has ranged from legal and technical documents to literary and marketing texts, web sites, brochures, as well as financial and project documentation.

Document translation

My translation card accounts for 1500 characters with spaces and is calculated on the actual finished text.

Subtitling

I have created subtitles for National Geographic documentaries and video clips. Some of my latest work includes TED Talks and promotional videos.

Proofreading and Text editing

Proofreading consists of comparing the translated text to the original, marking any errors with the standard proofreaders’ marks. Unlike copy editing, proofreading procedure implies simultaneous direct work with two sets of information. The proofs are then returned to the translator or a graphic artist for correction.
I have proofread or edited scientific papers, catalogues, brochures and publication material before the printing stage.
